The Daily Brief

EDITION 025TUE 1 SEP 2026 · 13:30 DUBLINREGIME: RISK-OFF
Today's Move
RTX and Lockheed Martin just walked into the buy zone alongside Eaton, Eli Lilly, Wells Fargo and Bank of America — buy all six in thirds; Datadog just broke its own zone and drops out, joining the ten-name AI-capex-and-power cohort that still isn't a buy.

Monday closed lower as the US and Iran traded fire for the first time in about a month — the S&P 500 fell 0.33% to 7,686.14, the Nasdaq slipped 0.12% to 26,370.89 and the Dow led the selling, down 374.09 points (-0.7%) to 53,185.90, even as all three indexes still closed out August with monthly gains. Tuesday's premarket is soft again to open September: S&P futures -0.27%, Dow futures -0.60% (roughly -200pts), Russell futures -0.61%, Nasdaq futures little-changed (+0.06%), after two oil supertankers — one Saudi, one South Korean-owned — were hit by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday night. Brent is above $91 (+0.9%), and the 10-year yield has pushed to ~4.78-4.79%, its highest since January 2025, as hawkish Fed signals and rising oil stack together. Underneath the headlines, this morning's scheduled 11:02 UTC GitHub Action refresh repriced the radar again: RTX and Lockheed Martin both slid back into range (Lockheed helped by a fresh seven-year Pentagon missile-defense contract and today's $3.45 dividend ex-date), while Datadog fell through its own zone floor and drops into the broke-zone bucket. Eaton, Eli Lilly, Wells Fargo and Bank of America all hold over from Monday. Buy the six live names in thirds; leave the broke-zone cohort — still concentrated in AI-capex chips and power-buildout names — alone until it repairs. ISM Manufacturing and JOLTS land at 15:00 Dublin, the first hard data since Friday's hawkish Warsh remarks — a reason to keep today's adds to a single tranche, not a reason to skip them.

Big Picture Regime Hawkish shift, still building

RISK-OFF holds, and the hawkish shift from Friday's Jackson Hole keynote is compounding rather than fading. The 10-year yield has climbed to roughly 4.78-4.79% — its highest since January 2025 — as rising oil and hawkish Fed signals reinforce each other; one read puts September hike odds above 65%, up from around 36% before Warsh spoke, though trackers still disagree by a wide margin (Kalshi showed a near coin-flip intraday last week versus other venues still near 70% hold). Reopened hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz are adding a second leg to the same trade: Brent above $91, the dollar firm, safe-haven flows into bonds pushing yields up rather than down because the market is pricing the response as inflationary, not growth-negative.

What it means: with the 10-year near a 20-month high, gravity is switched on for anything priced on a long growth runway. Today's ISM Manufacturing PMI and JOLTS (15:00 Dublin) are the first hard data since Warsh's speech — a hot ISM with sticky JOLTS openings feeds the hike case straight into Friday's payrolls; a soft print argues the bond move overshot.

Trends: Now & Next Where the money is going

NOW · Two tankers hit, the Hormuz premium re-lightsCatalyst
A Saudi VLCC (Bahri's Sidr) and a South Korean-owned tanker (Sinokor's Senegal Prosperity) were each hit by projectiles Monday night, minutes apart, in the same six-month-old conflict — crew on both reported safe. Brent is above $91, up ~0.9% on the day. Same driver as prior editions, fresh escalation — this is what's pushing equities lower and the dollar/bonds bid this morning.
NOW · Yields at a 20-month high, and it's inflation fear, not growth fearWatch
The 10-year sits near 4.78-4.79%, its highest since January 2025, moving up alongside oil rather than down — the market is treating renewed Hormuz tension as an inflation story. That combination (rising yields + rising oil) is the textbook setup that punishes long-duration growth names and rewards financials and energy.
NOW · Chip weakness bleeds into another sessionCooling
Nvidia -1.1% and Micron -1.7% in early trade continue last week's memory-and-AI-capex unwind; the Alpha 100's own AI Compute and Memory Cycle themes both read COOLING today. Ten Alpha 100 names in this cohort are already broke-zone — the trend is intact, not new.
NEXT · Today's ISM Manufacturing PMI + JOLTSCatalyst
10:00 ET / 15:00 Dublin, Tuesday 1 September — the first hard data since Friday's Warsh remarks. July's ISM read 55.6 (seventh straight month of expansion); July JOLTS openings are forecast easing to ~7.3M from 7.359M. A hot ISM with sticky JOLTS openings pushes hike odds further; a soft pair argues today's yield move overshot.
NEXT · Wednesday's ADP private payrollsData
8:15 ET / 13:15 Dublin, Wednesday 2 September — the last labor read before Friday 4 September's nonfarm payrolls report. Part of the same pre-positioning run (ISM → JOLTS → ADP → payrolls) meant to leave less room for a Friday surprise.

Movers & Why Monday's close + Tuesday's premarket

Mon close: Dow -0.7% (-374pts) → 53,185.90 · S&P 500 -0.33% → 7,686.14 · Nasdaq -0.12% → 26,370.89 · Tue premarket: S&P futures -0.27% · Dow futures -0.60% (~-200pts) · Russell futures -0.61% · Nasdaq futures +0.06% · Brent +0.9% → ~$91.28 · 10Y ~4.78-4.79% · Bitcoin ~$78,800 (-1% 24h) · Gold —

Two oil tankers hit by projectiles in the Strait of HormuzMatters
A Saudi VLCC and a South Korean-owned tanker were both struck Monday night off Oman, each having loaded ~2M barrels of Saudi crude last week; all crew reported safe. Brent above $91. The direct driver of today's soft tape — equities down, oil and yields both up on the same headline.
10-year yield at its highest since January 2025Matters
The 10-year note is near 4.78-4.79%, and the 30-year has climbed to roughly 5.28%, close to pre-Bessent-buyback-announcement levels. Hawkish Fed rhetoric plus a real oil shock are stacking on the same tape — long-duration and rate-sensitive names feel this first.
Chip names lead the Nasdaq lower: Nvidia -1.1%, Micron -1.7%, SanDisk -3.0%Minor
Broad semiconductor pullback in early trade, continuing last week's memory-and-AI-capex unwind rather than a fresh single-name story. Consistent with the Alpha 100's own COOLING read on AI Compute and Memory Cycle — nothing new to act on beyond the existing broke-zone list.
Lockheed Martin: fresh Pentagon contract + dividend ex-date lands the same day it re-enters the buy zoneMatters
Lockheed secured a seven-year Pentagon contract expanding missile-defense production capacity, and today is the ex-dividend date for its $3.45 quarterly payout. A real, dated catalyst behind today's radar entry — not just a price pullback with no story attached.

Smart Money Who's actually buying

Q2 13F filings show Wall Street split, not retreating, on Magnificent Seven namesLagged · weeks old
Across roughly 6,300+ reporting institutions, about 44% trimmed Mag-7 holdings (Microsoft and Meta named specifically) while another 42% initiated or added — a shift from Q1's broad chase into individual stock-picking. No consensus exit from megacap tech; the "AI trade is over" headline isn't what the filings show.
No fresh Form 4 cluster buy tied to a specific Alpha 100 name surfaced in today's search — an honest gap, not an empty market (openinsider.com is unreachable from this session's network, so this scan is incomplete rather than negative; treat as a gap, not a clean read). The House-passed congressional trading-ban bill (232-198, 22 July) remains stalled in the Senate, unchanged from prior editions.

GoPro +85.7% and Fly-E Group +72.4% on "massive volume." Two small/micro-cap names posted eye-popping percentage moves in early trade — the kind of headline that gets forwarded around because the number is huge.

So: neither is an Alpha 100 name, neither has a fundamental catalyst attached in today's search, and moves this size on thin, speculative names are a volume-and-momentum story, not a signal about anything else. The actual dated, tradeable event today is the Hormuz tanker strikes and the 10-year at a 20-month high — not a meme-sized percentage gain on a name nobody here owns.

Alpha 100 List changes

No editorial adds or ejections today — all 100 names carry the same tier, tag and thesis as the prior edition. This morning's scheduled weekday GitHub Action refresh (11:02 UTC) landed and repriced the book: the BUY NOW roster grew from Monday's five (Eaton, Eli Lilly, Wells Fargo, Bank of America — Datadog held over as the fifth) to a new six (Eaton, Eli Lilly, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, RTX, Lockheed Martin). Datadog fell through its own zone floor and moved into the broke-zone bucket, which now runs to 10 names: Applied Materials, GE Vernova, Coherent, Vertiv, Lam Research, Quanta Services, AMD, Nokia, Marvell and Datadog — still concentrated in AI-capex chip names and power-buildout names. Nvidia sits 5.8% above its zone as a limit order, outside the shown radar window; breadth (names above their 50-day) held roughly flat at 50/100 versus 51/100 Monday.
